On Monday, March 1, I attended Georgetown’s 33rd Annual Hockey Heritage Awards Dinner.
I want to thank Dave Kentner and John Duncan and the other members of the Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council, as well as the Kinsmen Club of Georgetown for organizing another successful dinner.
Here, in part, are my remarks from that evening: “I am honoured and privileged to represent this community and serve as your voice in the Ontario Legislature. “And to me, from what I’ve observed through the past few years, Georgetown is Hockeytown—I don’t care what the CBC says.
It’s true… Georgetown is justifiably proud of its hockey heritage, which we celebrate tonight for the 33rd year. “We thank the organizing committee, the Kinsmen, our special guests, the sponsors, and all of you for coming year after year. “And we especially thank this year’s award recipient: Finn Poulstrup, for his many, many years of community service through supporting minor hockey—teaching dedication, discipline and teamwork to generations of youngsters in Georgetown.
“Finn, on behalf of the Province of Ontario, it is my special privilege to offer thanks for your many contributions to this community’s hockey heritage.
In doing so, we acknowledge everyone you’ve worked with, who are sharing the honour with you. “And I wish you continued success in showing the best of Canada to the whole world!”
