Sliver Creek Place Adult Day Program in Georgetown
Ted Arnott attended the official opening of the Silver Creek Place Adult Day Program. Held on April 6, 2010 in Georgetown, Mr. Arnott delivered the following remarks:
Good afternoon everyone.
It’s an Good afternoon everyone. It’s an honour for me, to join with my colleagues in elected public service, Gary Carr, Rick Bonnette, and Members of Council to be with you here today, to celebrate the opening of Silver Creek Place.
You know, we sometimes disagree at Queen’s Park.
Some of you who watch the daily Question Period may think my use of the words “sometimes disagree” in this context is the understatement of the year!
But there are times when MPPs from all three parties come together in support of an idea that makes sense to all of us.
In my 20 years in the Ontario Legislature, I can’t recall a single instance where a Member of Provincial Parliament criticized services for seniors and others with special needs, providing the programs help people live independently longer and in a community setting.
In fact, there is a consensus amongst MPPs that these services and programs are not only good social policy, but at their best, they are investments that can actually save money.
That’s the economic side of the equation. But just as important is the human side.
Our seniors have built the country we’re so fortunate to live in and inherit. They have earned, and they deserve the very best we can afford to offer. The kinds of programs which will enliven this place will add immeasurably to their quality of life, and give caregivers an occasional break.
Others with special needs deserve every chance we can give them, so that their lives are fulfilling, so that they can achieve their full potential and enjoy full participation in community life.
Silver Creek Place will become their place of happiness as well.
So, I want to express my sincere appreciation for the funding provided for the Aging at Home Strategy.
I want to thank all who helped to convert that funding into programs we can all be proud of, and wish you all continued success.
Together, we work towards the promise of the future, making the Province of Ontario an even better place for all.
