MPPs set to debate resolution on local hospital projects
(Queen’s Park) – On Thursday, October 21, MPPs are scheduled to debate the future of hospital
projects important to the people of Wellington-Halton Hills.
“We need to know if the government is prepared to support our local hospital projects and, if so,
when we can expect to see progress,” stated Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott.
That’s why Mr. Arnott brought forward a private member’s resolution, which calls on the Minister of
Health to immediately approve the planning grant requested by the Groves Memorial Community
Hospital, allowing it to proceed to the next stage of planning for a new hospital. The resolution also
calls on the Minister to immediately approve a small project capital grant for the Georgetown
Hospital, allowing it to proceed with its needed emergency room addition and diagnostic imaging
renovation project.
“These projects mean a lot to the health of our communities,” Mr. Arnott observed. “But there are
dozens of similar needs, with similar project proposals to address them, in hospitals across Ontario.”
Mr. Arnott is hoping for support from other MPPs whose communities may be waiting for their health
care priorities to be acknowledged.
“My intention at the outset is more to seek a solution than to point fingers,” he said. “At the same
time, I want to continue using every available legislative mechanism to push for a fair and
transparent process for new hospital infrastructure.”
For several years, Mr. Arnott has been working with Groves to support its proposed new facility. He
has also been a strong advocate for the health care needs of Halton Hills.
The text of Mr. Arnott’s resolution reads as follows:
That in the opinion of this House, the Minister of Health should immediately approve the planning
grant requested by the Groves Memorial Community Hospital in the Township of Centre Wellington,;
and should also immediately approve a small project capital grant for the Georgetown Hospital in the
Town of Halton Hills, allowing it to proceed with its needed emergency room addition and diagnostic
imaging renovation project.
