MPP Arnott reflects on results and experience

Press Releases 2011

NEWS RELEASE
Ted Arnott, MPP
Wellington – Halton Hills
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 6, 2011

MPP Arnott reflects on results and experience
(Wellington-Halton Hills) – On the last day of the current legislative term, Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted
Arnott reflected on four years serving Wellington-Halton Hills and 21 years in the Ontario Legislature.

“I want to thank my outstanding staff, our supporters, and everyone we’ve worked with along the way,” said
Mr. Arnott.

September 6 was the 21 anniversary of Mr. Arnott’s first election to the Ontario Legislature in 1990.

He pointed to some of the most significant accomplishments in just the past three months on behalf of the
people of Wellington-Halton Hills:

• Helping secure $2.6 million in funding for Georgetown Hospital’s ER and CT scanner project
• Obtaining approval for new Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Centre Wellington
• Helping Jasper More’s family with approval of coverage for the medication Naglazyme for MPS VI
• Successfully calling for suspension of the GTA West Corridor Study, pending review by the next
Minister of Transportation
• Receiving recognition at Queen’s Park for having taken the lead to pass a bill observing
Emancipation Day in Ontario – the first bill that was co-sponsored by MPPs of different parties,
working together
• Announcing that the Ministry of Transportation would repave and repair Highway 6 north of Guelph
to Fergus – a project Mr. Arnott had called for in the Ontario Legislature – as well as renewing his
call to prioritize the much-needed Morriston bypass, south of Guelph
• Helping PNH patient Lucas Maciesza and his family, who required a life-saving medication called
Soliris; also successfully calling for the government to cover the cost of Soliris for patients who
needed it
• Receiving Honourary Membership in the Ontario Association of Road Supervisors for working on
their behalf; this adds to Mr. Arnott’s Honourary Membership in the Fire Fighters’ Association of
Ontario, for his work to protect volunteer firefighters
• Successfully advocating for small, local school bus companies hurt by government procurement
policy; following Mr. Arnott’s work with PC Education Critic Elizabeth Witmer, the government
backed off
• Pushing for interim funding, later approved, for small nursing homes with low occupancy rates –
helping homes like Morriston Park Nursing Home, south of Guelph

“We’ve had a very productive summer. Working together, we accomplished a great deal,” he concluded. “I
look forward to continuing my work on behalf of the people of Wellington-Halton Hills.”
