MPP Arnott goes to bat for Region of Halton and Town of
Halton Hills on Places to Grow/OMB issue
(Queen’s Park) – Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott is writing directly to the new Premier
on behalf of the Region of Halton and the Town of Halton Hills to support their concerns over the
provincial Places to Grow Act.
The Places to Grow Act, became law on June 13, 2005, and mandates targets for population
growth across the province. However, municipalities across the province were forced to amend
their official plans in order to bring them into conformity with the provincial targets.
The Region of Halton alone has received 41 appeals as a result of the changes to its growth
plan and must now defend the amendments before the Ontario Municipal Board, at a cost of
millions of dollars to Halton taxpayers.
The Regional Council of Halton and the Council of the Town of Halton Hills both recently passed
resolutions calling on the province to take responsibility for the cost of these OMB appeals.
“The new Premier has a duty to listen to municipalities like the Region of Halton and the Town of
Halton Hills,” Mr. Arnott said.
