MPP Arnott to hold Government to promise on Grand River
Raceway
(Queen’s Park) – Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott says he will hold the Wynne
Government’s feet to the fire on the promise made to the horseracing industry today in Elora.
Premier Kathleen Wynne was at Grand River Raceway in Elora on Friday to announce that the
Ontario Government has reached tentative transition funding agreements with 4 race tracks –
including Grand River Raceway – to ensure race dates for the 2013 season.
“While the Premier’s promise to integrate horseracing into the Province’s gaming strategy is
encouraging, we would not even be in this mess if they’d done their homework before they
announced the end of the Slots at Racetracks program a year ago,” Mr. Arnott said.
“I’ll do whatever I can to hold them to the promises they’ve made to my constituents,” he added.
The Government chose to make the horseracing announcement at Grand River Raceway in
Elora. That, says Mr. Arnott, is an as an encouraging sign that the Government recognizes the
success of Grand River.
“They chose the best racetrack facility in the Province to make the announcement,” he said.
When the Legislature resumes sitting the week of March 18th, Mr. Arnott hopes to reply to the
announcement in more detail.
