Government promises ice storm cleanup assistance
(Queen’s Park) – The Ontario Government has announced that it will provide up to $190 million
to Ontario municipalities to assist with repair and cleanup costs from the Christmas ice storm.
Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott, who had written pointed letters on behalf of three local
municipalities requesting support, welcomed the good news.
“I’m glad that the Government has at least listened, and has finally committed to helping our
municipalities cover the cleanup costs,” said Mr. Arnott.
“However, while this announcement is a step in the right direction, we first have to wait and see
how much each individual municipality will receive before we can be assured that the
Government is going to treat all municipalities fairly,” he added.
Mr. Arnott spoke with the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing in the Legislature the day
after the announcement to follow up with her.
“I want thank our local Councils and Staff for working so hard to justify this need,” Mr. Arnott
said.
