Wellington Place/Groves Memorial Hospital Site Servicing Ground Breaking Ceremony
Wellington Place/Groves Memorial Hospital Site
Servicing Ground Breaking Ceremony
June 17 , 2014
Good morning everyone!
It’s great to be here and see all of you, and it’s great to know that I don’t have to knock
on your doors today!
Today, we celebrate another step forward in the development of our new Groves
Memorial Community Hospital. And with each step forward, we move closer to
accomplishing our goal.
Site servicing, which is the reason we gather today, is absolutely a prerequisite for a
project such as this. And our celebration today is happening only because our
community has come together behind the vision of a new hospital.
Two and a half years ago, just before the 2011 provincial election, the Provincial
Government announced its support for a new Groves Hospital here in Centre
Wellington.
The Ministry’s approval was also a prerequisite for moving forward.
But it would not have happened without the enthusiastic support of our local municipal
governments, the County of Wellington and the Township of Centre Wellington. Their
willingness to go out on a limb to support the vision of a new Groves Hospital has been
absolutely crucial in the approvals we’ve received to date.
And going forward, that support will continue to be an essential element of our pitch in
the coming stages in the approvals process.
For this, our Warden Chris White, County Council and Staff, and Mayor Joanne Ross-
Zuj, Township Council and Staff, all deserve enormous credit.
With the resumption of the Legislature scheduled for July 2nd, I intend to continue to
reach across the aisle, seeking the ongoing support we need from the Minister of Health
and Long Term Care, because as I’ve said many times, better health care in a new
hospital setting in our area should never be allowed to become a political football.
And by working together, we can ensure that progress will continue to be made.
I also wish to acknowledge again everyone at Groves: the staff, the volunteers, the
Board, the Foundation…everyone… for your compassion and commitment, your
dedication and determination.
And, we all thank our wonderful community, and the people who live in it, who we are
so privileged to serve.
