Petition launched for new traffic lights on Guelph Street in
Georgetown
(Queen’s Park) – A petition has been launched calling on the Ministry of Transportation to install
new traffic signals at the intersection of Guelph Street (Highway 7) and McFarlane Drive/Hall
Road in Georgetown.
Town of Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette and Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott believe
the lights are justified because of the difficulty turning off of McFarlane Drive and Hall Road on
to Guelph Street.
“Guelph Street is a busy provincial highway. People who live in the subdivisions off of Hall Road
and McFarlane Drive, including in The Sands condominium, have expressed serious concerns
about the safety at this intersection and the difficulty they have turning onto Guelph Street,”
Mayor Bonnette said.
“We have been working together, along with local residents including Jim Dinneen and Bruce
Hayward, to bring these concerns to the attention of the Ministry of Transportation,” Mr. Arnott
added.
According to the Town of Halton Hills, many residents on the south side of Guelph Street are
avoiding the intersection altogether because of the difficulty turning left off of Hall Road. This is
diverting traffic through a residential subdivision to reach Delrex Boulevard.
“There is also significant new residential development in the area which will only increase the
volume of traffic turning onto Guelph Street,” Mr. Arnott concluded.
Copies of the petition are available through Mr. Arnott’s Riding Office at 1-800-265-2366 or
