Statement by MPP Arnott on the closure of Target stores
The following is a statement from Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott, concerning the
closure of Target Canada’s 133 stores, three of which are located in Fergus, Guelph, and
Milton. Mr. Arnott is the Ontario PC Critic to the Minster of Economic Development,
Employment, and Infrastructure:
Today’s announcement from Target Canada is obviously disappointing news for the company’s
employees and their families, who now face not just the prospect, but the grim and stark reality
of unemployment.
We in the Ontario PC Caucus share their disappointment, and we urge the Wynne Government
to end their complacency on unemployment, and redouble their efforts to encourage job
creation.
Ontario’s unemployment rate has been higher than the national average for 95 of the past 96
months. This is clear evidence of the failure of the Liberals’ current approach and policies.
We call upon the Government to reduce taxes, eliminate red tape, get hydro rates under control,
stop wasting taxpayers’ money, accelerate deficit reduction and begin paying down the debt.
Taken together, these policies would show Ontario is “open for business” once again.
