Highway 6 slated for improvements

(Wellington-Halton Hills) – Highway 6, from north of Guelph to Fergus, is scheduled for rehabilitation later
this year.

For Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott, it seems like déjà vu.

In his very first speech in the Ontario Legislature in 1990, he called upon Bob Rae’s NDP Government to
make improvements to Highway 6 through Wellington County, including the construction of passing
lanes. The County of Wellington and local Councils passed resolutions to draw attention to the issue.
Having worked together, in 1995 they received credit when the work commenced to repave the highway
from Guelph north to Fergus.

“My constituents drive Highway 6 all the time. In recent months, its condition has become deplorable,
and after all these years it needs resurfacing yet again,” Mr. Arnott said. “That’s why I raised the issue in

Question Period in the Legislature on April the 18 . I’m glad to hear this highway project appears to be
ready to go.”

The contract is for the rehabilitation of Highway 6 from Wellington Road 7 northerly to Fergus for 12.1
km. Work will include seven culvert replacements and three culvert rehabilitations. As a result of this
work, both driving conditions and highway operations throughout the area will be improved.

Mr. Arnott has also repeatedly urged the McGuinty Government to proceed with improvements to
Highway 6 south of Guelph, through Puslinch Township.

“I’m very disappointed that we haven’t seen meaningful process on the construction of the Morriston
bypass,” he stated.

“They are spending more than $2 billion a year on highways. Surely they could have found funding for
this important highway priority, which would benefit a large part of the province by improving traffic flow
from Niagara and Hamilton to the 401,” he concluded.

Mr. Arnott intends to continue to raising this issue.
