Morriston bypass petition presented in Ontario Legislature
(Queen’s Park) – On May 13, Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott tabled a petition in the Ontario
Legislature calling on the Government to prioritize the Highway 6 Morriston bypass project by
placing it on the Ministry of Transportation’s 5 year plan for new highway construction.
Mr. Arnott was in Morriston the previous Friday to accept the petition from the Puslinch COP
Committee. He gave credit to the Committee and the many other volunteers who have worked so
hard to focus attention on the need for a bypass.
“There are so many individuals who have put countless hours into raising public awareness and
getting signatures, and I want to thank them,” said Mr. Arnott.
2,237 people either signed the petition or expressed support for it online.
“Hopefully, this will help to show the Government how important this project is to our community. It
gives the Minister yet another reason to put it on to his 5 year plan,” Mr. Arnott said.
Many others deserve credit for pushing for the Morriston bypass, Mr. Arnott maintains.
“I also want to thank the Mayor, Township Council and staff, as well as the County of Wellington for
their work on this issue,” added Mr. Arnott.
Mr. Arnott also acknowledged the support of Cambridge PC MPP Rob Leone and Ancaster-Dundas-
Flamborough-Westdale Liberal MPP Ted McMeekin for their support for the project.
“Their support shows that this project has support throughout our area and it cuts across party
lines,” noted Mr. Arnott.
Mr. Arnott has worked for years to highlight the need for a bypass in the Ontario Legislature. He has
raised the issue in the House on multiple occasions. He has also repeatedly personally spoken with
successive Ministers of Transportation, as well as the Minister of the Environment.
On February 19, the very first day the House resumed sitting after the prorogation, Mr. Arnott tabled
a resolution in the Ontario Legislature calling on the Government to put the Highway 6 Morriston
bypass on to the Ministry of Transportation’s 5 year plan for highway construction.
Currently, it is the very first Private Member’s Resolution on the Legislature’s Order Paper.
