Presiding Officers appointed in the Legislature
(Queen’s Park) – A motion passed at the Ontario Legislature yesterday gave Ted Arnott yet
another responsibility in the 41st Provincial Parliament.
Once again, the veteran Wellington-Halton Hills MPP will be serving as one of the Presiding
Officers of the House.
In this assistant Speaker role, Mr. Arnott takes the Chair one day a week, presiding over the
debates in the Legislature when the Speaker is performing other duties outside the Chamber.
While in the Chair, Presiding Officers must be fair, impartial, and nonpartisan in their decisions
and rulings.
“I want to thank MPPs from all sides of the House for entrusting me with the chance to again
serve as a Presiding Officer in the House,” Mr. Arnott said. “I especially wish to thank our
Leader Jim Wilson and all my PC Caucus colleagues for their support.”
The other Presiding Officers in the Legislature will be Speaker Dave Levac, Scarborough-Rouge
River MPP Bas Balkissoon, Chatham-Kent-Essex MPP Rick Nicholls, and Hamilton East-Stoney
Creek MPP Paul Miller.
Previously, Mr. Arnott served as a Presiding Officer in the Ontario Legislature from 2003-09, and
again since 2011.
He was also recently appointed to be the Ontario PC Critic to the Minister of Economic
Development, Employment and Infrastructure.
