MPP Arnott to continue to monitor Hwy 7 intersection
(Queen’s Park) – It appears that the Ministry of Transportation intends to carry out much needed
safety improvements to the intersection of Highway 7 and Wellington Rd. 29.
“There are published reports that the Ministry of Transportation has committed to carrying out
some kind of work on the intersection this spring,” said Mr. Arnott. “My office has contacted the
Ministry of Transportation to seek more details and firm assurance from the Ministry.”
However, Mr. Arnott believes the fact that the Government appears to be taking the issue
seriously is a sign of progress.
“It’s good to see that the Government appears to be listening to the concerns that we’ve been
raising,” said Mr. Arnott.
“I am always prepared to reach out across the aisle to work with other parties to get things
done,” he added.
Mr. Arnott acknowledged the role of the many individuals in bringing the problem to the public
eye.
“I want to thank Gord Ough, the County Engineer for his advice, as well as County Council and
staff and Township of Guelph/Eramosa Mayor Chris White, Township Council, and staff, for their
interest in improving road safety in our area.” Mr. Arnott said. “I also want to thank Thomas
Mooney who first raised this issue with my office.”
Mr. Arnott raised the issue in a statement in the Ontario Legislature on February 27, and
followed up by speaking directly to the Minister of Transportation to ensure that he was aware of
the safety concerns.
Despite the Government’s apparent commitment to address the problem, Mr. Arnott intends to
continue to monitor the situation.
“I intend to continue to monitor the situation to ensure that all the safety issues we have raised
are satisfactorily addressed,” he concluded.
