Groves to receive $326,100 to expand mental health
services

(Wellington-Halton Hills) – Groves Memorial Community Hospital in Centre Wellington has been
promised $326,100 to expand emergency mental health services.

According to the Ministry of Health, the new funding will allow Groves to offer mental health
assessments on evenings, weekends, and holidays. The funding will enable Groves to provide
timely crisis intervention, psychotherapy and support to patients and their families. Patients who
need daily crisis support will receive more dedicated care, while also getting faster access to
community psychiatry service to shorten hospital days.

A new position of a dedicated program manager to oversee all mental health services within
Guelph and Wellington County will also be established.

Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott welcomed the news.

“Mental health services are an often overlooked part our healthcare system and it’s better if
people can access the services they need right here in our community,” Mr. Arnott said.

A strong supporter of Groves during his 26 years at Queen’s Park, Mr. Arnott has worked with
hospital officials and community partners to help secure Government approval for a new Groves
hospital. The new Groves Memorial Community Hospital is expected to open in 2019.

Guelph General Hospital and the North Wellington Health Care Corporation will also receive
additional funding for mental health services.
